Today was our first tourist adventure. The four of us made our way to the Summer Palace knowing where the closest train station was but no other directions... I convinced the girls it would be really touristy and heaps of big signs when we got off. Instead we got off and walked out into a poverish looking suburb with no signs of anything! after a long look at a map a taxi driver nodded to say he knew where he was going. It was amazing! so much bigger then what we'd imagined and the frozen water and trees amongst the old buildings was sooo beautiful!
It was a perfect day with blue sky, we had lunch there then got a train back into the city and went to a foreign bookstore to get some teaching resources but I just ended up getting some books for me to read because they were pretty expensive so I will make my own for the classroom.
When I got home I was presented with a packet of meat and told it was dog meat.....after the initial shock I saw a picture of a smiling happy labrador on the front of the packet so I assumed it was dog food..for a dog. It wasn't...15 minutes later there were two bowls of meat on the dinner table and one was dog and the other was donkey!!! My family found it hilarous that I thought it was wrong to eat those animals and kept telling me how normal they were because the dogs weren't pets they were bred for eating! haha I had to try it because of "when in Rome" but the Donkey was absolutly foul...It smelt like horse fur and tasted pretty similar. The dog was bearable to taste so I stupidly went back for a second go but my mind just kept telling me I should not be liking it so it didn't taste great either. (i've also been eating stingray thinking it was a vegetable for the last week but I like that its great just a bit rubbery.)

You crack me up! Missing you lots. Promise we will get Skype soon so we can talk. x
